There’s hardly an aviation enthusiast who wouldn’t agree that the P-51 Mustang is an absolute icon. A predator-shaped aircraft, sculpted by aerodynamics and history, and one of the most beautiful examples of industrial design ever created.

But original Mustangs haven’t been produced for decades. Today, their legend lives on thanks to a handful of visionaries recreating them — not as museum pieces, but as machines fit for everyday flying.

At ScaleWings, the world’s finest workshop for this craft, P-51 Mustang replicas are built using cutting-edge technology: carbon fiber, onboard computers, and everything a modern pilot could wish for. Interestingly, orders are placed years in advance — so many people dream of sitting behind their controls.

I had the chance to speak with their team about what goes into building such an aircraft: “We’re a bit like the craftsmen of old — only instead of leather and wood, we work with composites and CAD. But the heart and the idea remain the same,” I was told.
